Alliance Data is the result of the 1996 merger of two entities acquired by venture capital firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson and Stowe: JC Penney's transaction services business (BSI Business Services, Inc.) and The Limited's credit card bank operation, World Financial Network National Bank.

The company has more than 600 clients in industries including retail, petroleum, utility, financial services, insurance, hospitality and pharmaceutical markets.

Manages more than 107 million consumer relationships on behalf of some of North America’s most recognizable companies.

Processed more than 3.2 billion transactions in 2007 and generated over $7.5 billion in credit sales.

Second-largest outsourcer of retail private label card programs in 2007, with 92 million accounts on file.

Through World Financial Network National Bank, the company underwrites the accounts and funds the customer purchases for more than 85 private label credit clients, representing more than $3.9 billion in receivables in 2007.

In 2007, the company generated more than 221 million billing statements.

Operates Canada’s premier coalition loyalty marketing program, the AIR MILES® Reward Miles Program. Currently more than 70 percent of Canadian households (roughly 15 million Canadian consumers) actively collect AIR MILES reward miles, which can be redeemed for more than 800 rewards, such as travel, movie passes, entertainment attractions, electronic merchandise and more. In 2007, more than 4 billion reward miles were issued.

Since 1996, the company has been committed to supporting the communities in which it operates nationwide. In January 2002, the company launched a formal community service initiative called the Neighbor of Choice Program. Through this program, Alliance Data actively supports programs that fall under health and welfare, education, and civic enrichment. 

In 2007 Purdue University's Center for Customer-Driven Quality once again named Alliance Data's call center operations "Best in Class". Alliance Data’s call centers are recognized for its "exceptional call center performance" and continued commitment to improvement in customer service excellence.

Over the past several years, numerous Alliance Data locations have received “Best Places to Work” recognition including the headquarters in the Dallas, TX, offices in Westminster, CO, Atlanta, GA and Bend, OR.
